Politics in Siem Reap

The homes built close to Angkor Wat are discouraged because they later want to build hotels.  They are usually forbidden to make any changes.  This week because there are elections the rules about the houses near Angkor Wat have been relaxed and during this week they are allowed to fix their houses.  This one needs help.

Since members are allowed to do changes, many pitched in to help them make changes.  Here Dana and Da are digging holes to put the poles in.

This member of the church was happy to have help to the building  of part of her home.  They had to work fast as this option is only given to them this week.  After Sunday there cannot be any changes.

We can tell this is the week of elections with the parade of men who drive by with loud music.

Loud announcements were also broadcast along with the music which we have been told encourage people to vote for this party.

There are four different parties, two of them larger with two of them smaller.   We did notice that today people vote and so attendance was lower at church.  It is interesting learning some of  the many facts about Cambodia.
