Meeting our mission president - President Smedley and his wife Sister Smedley. We were able to get oriented about our mission and stay one night at the mission home.
The day before another senior couple flew into the airport to join us so several of the senior missionaries met them at the airport.
Then we went to Mike's Burgers. Are you hungry yet?
Our last day we went with the Tucks to School #21 which was an interrogation place during the reign of Pol Pot between 1975 - 1979.
Pol Pot thought "to keep you is no benefit, to destroy you is no loss".
There were many sad pictures of the loss of over 20,000 people at this one site.
This two story building was once a school, but turned into a torturing spot where the majority lost their lives.
Small brick rooms were created within large rooms to imprison individuals.
Actually this picture shows the seven who did not die who were there.
This is an example of an entire family who lost their lives.
We read information about Pol Pot who destroyed about 2 million people in Cambodia.
This building holds many tragic memories for the people of Cambodia.
March 8th we said goodbye to the mission president and climbed aboard the bus to go to Siem Reap. It was a fun seven hour ride.
This is a view of the river on the way up.
We loved the view of the lily pads on our way up.
This is our bedroom. It is really nice.
Dennis is standing just outside our door.
This is the yard by our apartment building.
Here Dennis is bringing in the papaya we just bought.
Here is our transportation - a tuk tuk. It really is great fun.
This is an example of a family all traveling on their "moto". This the most common type of family/individual transportation.
We wanted to get pictures of this market. Very interesting. However, we do our shopping at Luckys Supermarket.
Dennis and I are eating at a Japanese Buffet which has a conveyor belt with food items that you put in the cooking pot located right at your table.
We took the Elders to eat there. This is important since they cannot eat with the members (mission rules).
We are so grateful to President Loy, our branch president who picked us up from the bus station. Then the next day he took us to stores to get the large items for the apartment. We are the first Senior Couple here in Siem Reap.
We were able to have the missionaries over to our apartment for lunch. We have outstanding missionaries here and enjoy working with them.
